East Lancs Hospice raffle As part of their foundraising effort, the East Lancashire Hospice is currently holding a raffle. The winner will receive a £5000 cash price as well as a fabulous mini Coupé for a year. As part of the Group's ongoing support to the East Lancashire Hospice, WEC are one of the sponsors of this year's raffle and tickets will be available for sales in our receptions from 10am today onwards as well as on the Hospice's website. Raffle tickets are only £1 each (£10 for a book of 10 tickets, maximum 20 tickets per person) and all proceedings will go to the East Lancs Hospice. The Draw will take place on Tuesday 4 September at Blackburn College. We are pleased to announce that WEC Group were crowned the winners of the Red Rose Awards 2012 in Blackpool last week after scooping both "Industrial Business of the Year" and "Large Business of the Year" awards! Darwen Tower to get its dome back this week The WEC Group is pleased to announce that after 6 weeks of particularly poor weather conditions, it is now deemed safe to airlift the new dome on top of Darwen's Jubilee Tower.
The Darwen Tower dome replacement was delayed due to high winds and heavy rain that have affected the region since early December, but based on the current weather forecast issued by the MET Office, we are hoping to airlift the dome into place on Friday 13th January 2012 between 11am and 1pm (subject to weather) To read the press release from today's Telegraph, click here |

Darwen Grand Prix - Sunday 10th July, 1.30pm WEC will once again compete in the Darwen Grand Prix pedal car race on Sunday and you are obviously all welcomed to come and cheer our WEC Racing team! WEC Academy update: Spitfire Memorial Our Training Academy once again made the headlines last week, with a feature about the spitfire memorial that was published in the Lancashire Telegraph. The Spitfire is now at polishing stage and should be donated to the town of Darwen in September.

Orphanage Cup: WEC vs BT, 04/05/11 WEC will be playing BT (British Telecom) on May 4th 2011 (6.30pm kick off), Anchor Ground, Darwen FC, competing for a spot in the finals. As the Orphanage Cup is a charity event, tickets to the games are normally £3.00. However, WEC will pre-buy tickets so that any employee who wishes to attend could come to the game free of charge. WEC Group Win an Award! The Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards took place on Friday 12th November at Ewood Park. Last year WEC Group won Business of the Year much to everyone's delight. This year we concentrated on submitting for the Training and Development award, focusing on the work of the Academy. I am pleased to announce we won the award on the evening against tough competition. The judges were impressed with the Group's continuing commitment to the apprentice scheme since its conception four years ago, especially during the current economic downtun. They were also impressed with Kris Mercer's dedication to the Academy as full time instructor. The WEC Group apprenticeship scheme is the only one of its kind in the UK and we are pleased the Academy has been recognised for the good work it carries out. |
